John McLean is the leader of the dean of graduate education and research at the College of Arts & Science in Vanderbilt University. He also leads the McLean Laboratory in Vanderbilt University, which has recently been looking into the development of mass spectrometry technologies via ion mobility–mass spectroscopy (IM–MS). Enhancing Omics Research with Advanced LC–MS/MS Techniques

Lipidomics involves studying cellular lipids on a large scale, usually with MS tools and methodologies. Meanwhile, metabolomics is the study of metabolites, which are small molecules within the cells and tissues of living organisms. Metabolomics is rapidly growing a presence in the biomedical space thanks to MS instrumentation advances, and since MS is essential for advancingomics research, researchers are looking for ways to improve current MS technologies. In a recent study out of the University of Lyon in Lyon, France, lead author Sophie Ayciriex and her team showed the potential of combining data-independent acquisition (DIA) and advanced MS techniques for revolutioninzing omics research.

Analytica 2024: An Interview with Michael Lämmerhofer

Michael Lämmerhofer is a full professor (W3) for pharmaceutical (bio-)analysis at the University of Tübingen, Germany.H earned his PhD in Pharmaceutical Chemistry at the University of Graz, Austria. He was coworker of Professor W. Lindner (University of Vienna, Austria) until 2011 and from 1999 to 2000 he was post-doc at the Department of Chemistry of the University of California, Berkeley, USA, with Prof Frantisek Svec. His research interests include the development of functionalized separation materials (chiral stationary phases, mixed‑mode phases, chemo- and bioaffinity materials, nanoparticles, monoliths), metabolomics and lipidomics, pharmaceutical analysis (impurity profiling, enantioselective analytics), multidimensional separations, and biopharmaceuticals analysis. During Analytica 2024, we interviewed Lämmerhofer about his conference presentation and how chiral stationary phases (CSPs) can be used in analytical chemistry.
